Rusty

Lovely little crossbreed Rusty arrived for rehomed on 19 May 2026. He is not a staffie, or even a staffie cross and while probably being a good old-fashioned mongrel, he looks a lot like a border terrier/corgi cross. He is short, and weighs just 16.5 kilos.

Rusty 6 and a half years of age, but unfortunately did not arrive in the best state, with very long nails, and very bad skin and hair loss. He has seen our vet already, and has been treated for mange and is now having anti-fungal baths every two days for the next week or so.

Despite his condition Rusty has a super friendly personality, and loves to meet people, is easy to walk and great to handle and look after.

We have very limited history for Rusty so the type of home we are currently looking for is as follows:

  • No dogs currently living in the home

  • No cats in the home

  • No children under the age of 7 years

  • Access to his own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)

  • Not caged/crated in the home

Handling

A very friendly dog, whose tail never seems to stop wagging. He was very sociable and happy with us when he arrived, and allowed us to fit him with a new collar, and one of our temporary harnesses. He is easy to get ready for walks and has not shown any aggression, dominance or fear to any person he has encountered. Despite his condition he has a lovely, spritely bounce in his step, as if every day and every moment is a happy one.

In the car, on the back seat he can be restless unless someone is with him, this can include pacing about, but most importantly he will try and chew through his seat belt clip if alone. We would recommend someone sitting with him on car journeys.

Walking

When he arrived, due to his obvious lack of exercise we restricted his walks to three 15-minute walks a day. This has now been increased to two 25-minute walks a day, and we will increase this further as he stays with us and gets accustomed to the exercise.

Rusty has a lovely bounce and swagger on his walks, he trots along at a nice brisk pace usually at the full length of the lead. He seems to be very happy out and about on his walks. He has met dogs on walks nose to nose without issue, and otherwise ignores other dogs that he sees. He does not appear to be bothered by anything on his walks, and just enjoys being out and about.

Playing

Rusty loves to play and will play with any toy. No possessiveness witnessed while playing but may jump up towards toys you are holding. Loves anything that squeaks, tug toys, and will also entertain himself by playing with these toys. Our volunteers have commented how lovely he is to play with.

Health

Rusty arrived without any vaccinations and with very poor condition skin/fur. He has patches of fur loss, including a large area on his chest, and smaller areas dotted on his back and around his groin. This could be caused by a number of things but the first to be checked is mange and other parasites.

He has now seen our vet and had his 1st restart vaccination and has had a strong Bravecto treatment to kill anything unsavoury. He is also having Malaseb baths every two days to help his skin heal. He will be monitored over his first 14 days with us, and if needed he will have a follow-up appointment with a specialist vet. Areas of hair loss on his chest and groin may not grow back.

Other than this he is in good health with a good heart beat and lungs, and his excessively long nails have been clipped by the vet.

Please be aware that the profiles of new dogs can change as we get to know about the dogs the longer, they stay with us.

The adoption contribution is £225.00.
