Big boy Rocco arriving for rehoming on 30th July. He is a staffie crossed with a Cane Corso. He is a very friendly, cuddly, fusspot who just adores company and cuddles. He is quite a big boy at 29.1 kilos, and he is aged approximately 2 years and 3 months.

 

The sort of home for Rocco

• No dogs currently in the home

• No cats in the home

• No children under the age of 12 years

• Access to his own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)

• Not caged in the home

• Not left for more than 4 hours at a time.

• An active home

• Would suit a confident owner, used to slightly larger dogs

 

Handling

A very friendly and forward dog, that just loves fuss, strokes, rubs and scratches, it’s probably his favourite thing of all. He was very easy for us to fit with a new collar and one of our temporary harnesses. He sits beautifully, often without being asked, and offers paws (each one). He also takes treats nicely, though he much prefers good positive physical contact.

As a Cane Corso cross he may have some the common personality traits of this breed, and if you are not familiar with the breed it is worth reading up on them.

 

Walks

On our first walk he was very easy. Although he is a big boy, and clearly would be strong he does not pull on walks, but his previous owner did feel he was too strong for her. Dogs he saw on his first walk he just stopped and looked at, no other reactions. Not fazed by traffic, but also not the best road sense either. Happy to see new people, and wants to say hello to almost everyone. Happy to do his toilet business on the walk.

 

This has followed through on subsequent walks as well.

 

Play

Loves to play, and enjoys soft toys, and as he has been with us he has gained more confidence and played with other toys and we have had no issues holding toys that he has in his mouth.

 

Health

Arrived with no signs of illness or injury, just nails that are a bit long. He will see our vet during week commencing 3rd August to restart his vaccinations and be microchipped.

 

Rocco was fed a diet of cooked chicken, and we are told he will refuse to eat meals of anything else, though he was used to grazing with dry food through the day. We have put him on a two-meal-a-day dry food diet, but this may take time to adjust to, and this may mean that in the home different foods may need to be trialled.

 

Viewings

During very hot weather, viewings (which have to involve a dog walk) may be suspended or arranged only for early mornings.

• House trained

• Used to being left for up to 4 hours. Not destructive since being a puppy.

• When left, he normally has the run of the house.

• No health issues – never had to take him to the vets.

• Lived with children aged 6-16 years. Loves children, going up them for a fuss, and will try and join them if they are playing ball games, but can also sit calmly when are playing board games.

• Never lived with cat.

• Never lived with a dog.

• Dog history very limited due to lack of walks. May just look at them.

• A good passenger, longest journey 2 hours, not car sick.

• Fine having a bath, to the extent that 11 year old child can bath him.

• Never bitten a person or animal

• Never shown dominance

• Never shown aggression

• Favourite things include attention, cuddles, toys, being on the sofa
