Cash
Cash is a nearly one-year old staffie cross that arrived in our care on 17 September 2025. Cash came to us as a stray, so we have very limited information about him.
Cash needs basic training. He will need an experienced and patient owner who is willing to put the time and effort in to helping Cash. Basically, think of Cash as an 8–10-week-old puppy in a young adult’s body. He has started to respond remarkably well to instructions given with the reward of cheese but there could still be a question mark over how good his hearing is.
The sort of home for Cash
-
No dogs or cats in the home
 -
No children under the age of 16 years
 -
Access to his own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)
 -
An experienced dog owner, patient and willing to work with Cash through reward-based training

Things to consider
-
We do not know if Cash is house trained, but he has been clean in his kennel so far.
 -
We do not know if Cash is used to being left alone and based on his behaviour in kennels we would say not. This means you will need to be home most if not all of the time, certainly to begin with and then train Cash to get used to being left alone, which is a process which normally takes some time

Handling
Full of beans, active, energetic, short attention span, but very driven when cheese is around. Although unresponsive to commands when he arrived (we were told he was deaf), with the introduction of cheese he is much more responsive, and he can definitely hear certain sounds - e.g. whistles, the click of a training clicker, and words spoken loudly.
He is sweet, and needs an owner with patience, experienced in helping to train a dog. Zero aggression shown, allowed us (through enormous amount of fidgeting) to fit him with a new collar and a temporary harness. Very reluctant to go back into his kennel, and restless some of the time when in there which tells us he may not be used to being left alone.
Cash has displayed a lot of humping behaviour when in homes, and this can be persistent and will need patient owner(s) to work with Cash and manage these behaviours.
Walking
Pulls some of the time but will calm down. Despite being relatively small (19.8 kilos), he can be strong. He needs training to learn to walk at a steadier pace. He is all over the place, weaving left and right, but as pup he just hasn’t been given the right direction so far.
Some reactivity/interest in passing traffic which he can pull towards. No bad reactions to dogs he has seen on walks, even dogs that have been having a go at him, and dogs that have come right up to sniff his bum, and the pound kennels indicated he likes dogs.
Playing and training
Has started some play, but he tends to be more into us, and having a fuss, and being all wriggly. When he arrived we were told he was deaf, due to how unresponsive he was, but through trial and error with a variety of high value treats we found that mild grated cheese was his thing. This brought about an instant change in his ‘performance’ in response to instructions. He still has a short attention span, but now he will sit, give paw, touch, and learning to wait longer when he is sat.
Health
Appears in good overall health, no obvious signs of injury or illness.
Cash is microchipped but not yet neutered. Cash has seen our vet and has had his 1st restart vaccination. He has been given a clean bill of health but he does have some scar tissue on his chest which we are bathing with Hibiscrub. The vet did not initially believe there was any problem with his hearing but we are asking for another check.
The dog adoption contribution for this dog is £225.00.
