Handling
A very happy, sociable and friendly dog, who was very well behaved when first meeting us, responded well to instructions and was easy to fit for a new collar and one of our temporary harnesses.
She has been happy meeting all the new people she has come into contact with so far without fear, aggression or dominance.
Walks
Ocean is overweight, and has long nails, and needs to build up her stamina and strength and at the moment we are walking her twice a day for 20 minutes each. Over time this should be gradually increased as she gets more used to regular walks.
She has proven to be an easy dog to walk, plodding along at a nice pace, not fazed by things that she sees, and ignorant of dogs and cats so far.
Play
Just like with walks, we are moderating play, and gradually building her up as she can tire easily at the moment. As she becomes more active and loses a bit of weight this should improve. She particularly likes rope toys and balls. She may not always give them back, but she will exchange them for another toy, or a treat.
Health
Other than being a couple of kilos overweight and having longer nails, Ocean appears in good health with no signs or symptoms of injury or illness. She will see our vet during week commencing 19th October for a general check-up and her restart vaccinations.
Please be aware that the profiles of new dogs can change as we get to know about the dogs the longer, they stay with us.
The adoption contribution is £275.00.
If you adopt a dog from Happy Staffie Rescue you could be entitled to five weeks free pet insurance through Agria (terms and conditions apply).
Further information provided by the previous owner
-
House trained.
-
Used to being left for up to 3 hours, in the kitchen and living room.
-
Never destructive in the home.
-
No health issues but she did have a C-section for a singleton litter she had.
-
Currently walks twice a week for ten minutes each time.
-
Not socialised to meet other dogs, I never allowed this.
-
Never lived with cats and will chase cats.
-
Lived with children aged 3 to 13 years. Fine with children she knows but she may be too boisterous and I think would suit older children because of her size and how boisterous she may be.
-
Never bitten a person or animal.
-
Never shown aggression.
-
Has shown dominance since we had a new baby, she was fine with the older children, but since the baby was born she has not liked me picking the baby up and her hackles will go up. She was absolutely fine before the baby arrived, and it is only around the baby that she behaves this way.
-
Hates having a bath. Will put up with it, but tries to get out.
-
Not travel sick, longest journey 1 hour.
-
Commands known – leave, stop, ah-ah, sit, paw, lie down, here, no.
