Lovely, gentle Kenzo arrived for rehoming on 2nd August 2026. According to his microchip, he has just last month turned 7 years of age and came to us as a stray. He needs to put on a bit of weight, and we would describe him as a staffie-cross.

 

The sort of home for Kenzo

• No dogs currently in the home

• No cats in the home

• No children under the age of 8 years

• Access to his own private and secure garden (not shared or communal).

• Not caged/crated in the home

• Access to the sofa for cuddles

 

Handling

From the moment he arrived he was super-friendly with all of the people he met. He has not shown an ounce of aggression or dominance towards us, and in fact his default position is often just to roll onto his back for belly rubs.

 

He was very dirty and smelly when he arrived so we gave him a day one bath, and despite having only known us for less than an hour he was very well behaved, despite not being overly enthusiastic with the water going over him.

 

Giving him a worming tablet, and the spot-on flea treatments were also very easy. And, despite wriggles and being excited, fitting him with a new collar and one of our temporary harnesses was easy.

 

Although Kenzo came to us as a stray, the transporter brought him 2 ½ hours by car and he was in a cage in the boot/backseat area and was described as being “as good as gold.”

 

Walks

Due to the recent hot weather our normal two walks a day are limited to one a day.

 

On our first walk he was very excited and wriggly getting ready. He was happy to go in any direction we went and seemed relaxed and confident out and about. The first dog he saw we think he had not noticed, and when he suddenly did he pulled and seemed excited. A second dog he saw on the other side of the road, and again he appeared excited and gave a one bark ‘hello!’.

 

On a subsequent walk we were able to learn that he has no fears of traffic, including large, loud trucks, and walks nicely without pulling or weaving.

 

Play

From the moment he arrived he has been into his toys and seems to love every toy that comes his way. He will retrieve toys thrown and sometimes with drop, particular balls, other toys he may take off to chew. He has shown no problems being stroked/touched while he has toys in his mouth.

 

May jump up when toys are held in an attempt to take them, so he probably needs to learn some patience. He cheats with snuffle mats, shaking them to release the treats rather than snuffling!

 

Health

Other than being underweight Kenzo appears in good health at the moment.  He is also now gaining weight nicely, and is 25.6 kg. When he arrived he had a rash on his belly, groin area, but this cleared up within two days with just Sudacrem. He will see our vet during week commencing 3rd August 2026 for a general check up and to restart his vaccinations.

 

 

Viewings

During very hot weather, viewings (which have to involve a dog walk) may be suspended or arranged only for early mornings.
