Dolly
Dolly came to us as a stray, and she is estimated to be no older than 18 months. We would describe Dolly as a medium sized staffie-cross, and she currently weighs 23.3 kilos.
She was briefly rehomed and returned after a week.
The sort of home for Dolly
-
No dogs currently living in the home
-
No cats living in the home
-
No children under then age of 12 years
-
Access to her own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)
-
No cages/crates in the home
-
You must be a confident and experienced owner able to help train, manage and redirect unwanted behaviours on walks
Things to consider
-
As we do not know if she is house trained, although given her age we would like to think that she is, and she has been spotless in her kennel so far.
-
We do not know if she is used to being left alone, and you may have to train her to get her used to being left, up to a maximum of four hours.
-
She is a very young dog and would benefit from a home that can give her the exercise, play, time that a young developing dog needs.
Handling
A super friendly, bouncy, full of energy pup. She allowed us to fit her with a new collar and one of our temporary harnesses without any issue (other than a little wriggly), but we think in her past an owner may have allowed the lead/harness to be a toy, as she likes to mouth the harness in particular when it is being put. No aggression, dominance or fear shown in any of our handling of her. May mouth may excited but stops when told, and especially responds to "ah-ah".
She is very clever, and very treat focused. She is a fuss pot, and likes attention, and is very playful. During play she may do puppy bows and may growling/grumbling chats, but this is perfectly normal behaviour for her.
She has shown zero aggression towards any of the people she has met while in our care.
Walks
Our experience with Dolly is that she can be wriggly having her harness put on, and may see it as a toy. We have techniques to help desensitise her to the harness (as a toy) which we can show you, but they require patience..
Dolly walks at a brisk pace, may weave, may pull a bit, but not too much. Would suit a brisk walker. Interested in everything – sounds, people, vehicles, but more out of inquisitiveness than anything else. She really wants to say hello to people!
She can become over-excited when she sees a dog and this may involve squealing, pulling, jumping, but no aggression. This behaviour requires redirection with a high value treat, such as chicken, and keeping her focus. For some people this behaviour may be difficult to manage.
She would suit a confident owner, who has the patience to work with a dog that can get over-stimulated when she sees a dog.
As Dolly came back us she has also seen a dog behaviourist, and there are no barriers to her being rehomed, provided it is with a patient, confident owner. The behaviourist believes she would suit a home with no children under 12 years of age.
Play
Likes all toys, including balls, soft toys, ropes, rubber toys. Loves chasing after them and will bring them back to then settle into a chewing session with them. We have had no issues removing toys from near her, or her mouth, and she will also happily exchange them for treats. She has shown no aggressive or dominant behaviours at all, to any of our people during her entire time with us.
Health
Dolly appears in good health. She has seen our vet and had her 1st restart and Kennel Cough vaccines. She has now been microchipped. The vet gave her a clean bill of health on 5th February 2026.
It is not unusual for strays to arrive with Kennel Cough, though all our dogs are vaccinated against Kennel Cough at the earliest opportunity they may already be incubating this illness when they arrive/are adopted.
Please be aware that the profiles of new dogs can change as we get to know about the dogs the longer, they stay with us.
The adoption contribution is £250.00.
If you adopt a dog from Happy Staffie Rescue you could be entitled to five weeks free pet insurance through Agria (terms and conditions apply)
