Job 2: minimum of one shift per week, 10 hours with extra hours available

Pay: National Minimum Wage

Location & hours: Kidderminster

Working any day(s) of 7 each week including every Sunday

5.6 weeks holiday a year

Important

Shift patterns start at 7am, and the later shifts finish at 8pm. You must be flexible to work different days/shifts from week to week.

Both roles would suit someone who is highly flexible. The working week is any of the 7 days a week, with shifts that operate between 7am and 8pm each day, every day, 365 days a year. You will be expected to work on Christmas day in the first year of employment, and then on rotation thereafter.

Your initial contract will be for either one shift or two shifts, each shift being a minimum of 5 hours duration.

We are keen on individuals who want additional hours, as many more hours will become available to cover absences for holiday, etc.

You will be working most of the time alone and working with dogs with a variety of needs and behaviours. While most dogs are happy and easy-going you will work with some dogs that jump, mouth, nip, snap, are very stubborn, with no training, highly reactive to dogs, or even terrified of the outside world.

Highly desirable attributes

  • 1 year+ working experience with dogs in a kennel/rescue centre/veterinary environment or extensive hands-on experience of owning staffies or other large powerful breeds, with particular emphasis on experience with dogs with challenging behaviours.

  • Flexibility – your rota will change week to week AND there will be additional hours available.

  • Eagerness to learn.

  • Adaptation to change.

  • You must be able to work on your own initiative, often on your own and unsupervised.

Other desirable attributes

  • Outgoing friendly and welcoming personality.

  • Able to handle, walk and control large and powerful dogs safely.

  • Cash handling and card payment experience

  • Working with the public.

  • Good IT skills – recording dog notes throughout the day on our database, responding to emails.

  • Good telephone and interpersonal skills – you will be working with lots of volunteers who come and help us walk the dogs.
