Needs confident and assertive owner(s)
Handling
Very happy and friendly girl, very much a typical staffie. Allowed us to fit her with one of our temporary harnesses after a fair amount of wriggling. No aggression or dominance shown to us, but she can be impatient, like sit needs to be reinforced otherwise she can be straight up, or she may give out a bark if she thinks you are taking too long.
Although not aggressive or dominant, Koda can mouth when excited/over-stimulated, and this can be uncomfortable. She will need an owner who can calmly and patiently work with her to address this.
Walking
Brisk walker tends to pull so will need an equally brisk walker capable of walking her. Loves walks, and nothing seems to faze her on walks. Glances at dogs, but that is about it. Not bothered by traffic.
Described as golden to walk by our volunteers. She is an active, energetic dog, and would suit an owner after this sort of dog.
Playing
Loves to play but can be impatient and may snatch toys, or try to jump up to get them, or impatiently bark to hurry you up. Loves to play tug, and will instigate this by bringing toys to you. Will chase anything thrown.
May mouth during, but a stern “no!” stopped her instantly.
A very happy and playful girl.
Watches up tidy up, and one time did try and take a toy but again a firm “no!” stopped this antic.
Health
Koda is vaccinated until November 2025. She is already neutered and microchipped. She has a small skin tag on a back leg, which our vet has checked and is not concerned about - but as with anything like this should be monitored for changes in the future.
The adoption contribution for Koda is £275.00.
Further information provided by the previous owner
-
House trained
-
Used to being left for up to 4 hours at a time
-
Amazing with children from newborns up to 8 years of age, but she is a big girl and can accidentally knock over smaller children so would be better suited with older children
-
Never lived with a dog for very long. She briefly lived with family member’s dog, but Koda was too full on with her play, and the other dog did not tolerate this so they had to be separated.
-
Was great meeting other dogs, but after she was attacked by a neighbour’s dog, the owner has avoided other dogs. Koda can be very excited, and may jump on other dogs as part of her play, which some dogs may not like.
-
Pulls on walks.
-
Never let off the lead unless in a secure area.
-
She has had a past yeast infection in her ear that was treated successfully with a short course of steroids.
-
Fearful of water – this happened after she accidentally fell into a pool, since then she has been frightened of water.
-
Dominant of female owner, but no other person. This dominance tends to be in the form of mouthing of wrists/watch/cuffs. Only evident with female owner, and no other females (or males) in the family.
-
Great traveller in cars. Not travel sick.
-
Not a dog to take to pubs, social clubs, etc. does not like these settings.
-
Will chase cats, squirrels, birds
-
Favourite things include cuddles on the sofa, walks, toys, being active.
-
Knows sit, paw, down.
