Roxy

Roxy arrived for rehoming on 28 November 2024.

Roxy is going to need a very patient, understanding owner, who will need to house train her. There may be other training areas that arise as time goes by.

What we have found out about Roxy is that she is a very friendly, sweet, affectionate dog, that loves a fuss and attention, without being over-clingy.

The sort of home for Roxy

  • No dogs or cats in the home

  • No children living in or regularly visiting under the age of 13 years

  • Access to her own private and secure garden (not shared or communal)

  • No cages/”crates” in the home

  • Access to the sofa for cuddles

Things to consider

  • We doubt that Roxy is house trained

  • We do not know if Roxy is used to being left alone, the maximum time for any of our dogs is 4 hours, but you may have to build her up to that gradually, i.e. not leave her to begin with.

Handling

Very affectionate and sweet. No aggression or dominance shown. If she stands up, with paws on your legs, and you fuss her she may urinate. Wriggly having the harness put on. A lovely natured girl.

Walking

We have taken her for her first walk, and we did a 25 minute on a quiet road, and some quiet grassy areas. While she weaved a lot, left, right, going behind, she did not pull.

We passed three dogs on the walk - a calm pocket bully, about ten feet away which she saw and ignored. Then an off the lead small terrier that passed us about 15 feet away, she showed some interest, but nothing more. Finally a calm cockerpoo, which although was the closest passing Roxy again totally ignored.

On walks she engages well with outside, with lots of smelling, not bothered by the occasional passing vehicle, keen on seeing people, but she has yet to do any toilet on a walk. However on her return we took her straight to the garden and she had a big wee in the garden, which is very encouraging.

We feel she is not quite strong enough for regular walks, she needs to toughen up her pads, and this can take a couple of weeks. Other activities to entertain during this time would include play, training, garden time.

Play

Playing is a new thing for her, and while she will chase toys, she is more inclined to want to be with you, and have a fuss. She should learn to play in time and we would encourage the new owner to continue to work with Roxy to get her used to play as it will be particularly important during the first couple of weeks when walks are likely to be very limited.

Health

Due to the condition she arrived in Roxy saw our vet on 29 November 2024.

Our vet estimates Roxy is about 18 months of age. She has an ear infection and has treatment for this for the next 7 days. She has hair loss on her back and tail which could be diet related, or due to her previous living conditions. She will be treated for mites on 3 December 2024 just to rule this out (delayed as she has already had a flea treatment).

We have now had her microchipped, and she has had her 1st restart vaccination.

She will need to see our vet again 13 December to assess her condition and see if a course of steroids is also required, or whether she is able to be adopted at that time.

We do not believe she is neutered.

Although viewings can take adoption will only be completed after her next vet visit on 13 December.

Roxy's adoption contribution is £250.00.
